(CNN) — The NFL will not discipline five St. Louis Rams players for making an on-field “hands-up, don’t shoot” signal in support of Ferguson protesters before Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders, an NFL spokesman said in a Monday statement.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. –The St. Louis Police Officers Association is condemning a controversial gesture made by St. Louis Rams players.

Before Sunday’s game against the Raiders, several Rams players entered the field displaying the “hands up, don’t shoot” pose.

The gesture was to show support for 18-year-old Michael Brown who was killed by police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson.

The St. Louis Police Officers Association has released a statement condemning the St. Louis Rams football players who made the pregame salute to Ferguson.

“The St. Louis Police Officers Association is profoundly disappointed with the members of the St. Louis Rams football team who chose to ignore the mountains of evidence released from the St. Louis County Grand Jury this week and engage in a display that police officers around the nation found tasteless, offensive and inflammatory,” the SLPOA said, via KSDK.com.

A spokesman for the St. Louis Rams says the team was unaware of the demonstration before the game.
