OKLAHOMA CITY – Police arrested a man after he was accused of stealing a truck, punching a police K9 and running from authorities.

Officers said the truck owners called authorities to say they found their stolen vehicle and were following it in northwest Oklahoma City Friday.

According to police, they tracked down the man accused of driving the stolen truck.

When they caught up to him, the driver led them on a chase which ended in a field with very tall grass.

The report states officers couldn’t find the suspect or the truck in the weeds so they called out Air One and the K9 unit.

Officers said their dog found 30-year-old Richard Michael Simpson.

Police said Simpson punched their K9 in the face several times to try to free himself.

Authorities said the dog was not seriously injured.

Simpson was arrested and is now facing charges for running from police, mistreating a police dog and driving without a license.
