Oklahomans march in ‘Journey for Justice’ rally to fight for Ferguson’s Michael Brown

OKLAHOMA CITY – More than 100 people in Oklahoma are rallying to remind the community to not forget Michael Brown in Ferguson.

They marched in the streets of downtown Oklahoma City all the way to the Governor’s Mansion Saturday afternoon.

The Oklahoma State Conference, NAACP called for statewide support of all community organizations to keep fighting for Michael Brown and for all the victims of police brutality and racial profiling.

The group says the statewide march Saturday was the next big step in supporting the National NAACP setting out on a ‘Journey for Justice’.

It started at the corner of NE 23rd and Martin Luther King Dr. and ended at the Governor’s Mansion.

There were similar marches held throughout the state.

“We have to make a difference and we have to have our voices heard. We have to take action in our government,” said Nathaniel Batchelder, Director, The Peace House.

Anthony Douglas, the NAACP State President, encouraged non-violence throughout the nation during all protests.

Douglas also wants justice for all who faced untimely deaths at the hands of police.

However, he still has kind words for the Oklahoma City police officers he’s worked closely with in the past.

“The police officers in Oklahoma City are not our enemies, but yet within the forces there are some officers who have taken questionable actions. But they have always supported us not only on this march but on other marches,” said Anthony Douglas, State President NAACP.
