Ford is kicking off the beginning of the year with a recall.

The company is recalling about 13,500 Lincoln MKC vehicles because drivers are mistakenly shutting the vehicles off while driving.

When drivers reach for the “S” button to put the vehicle in ‘sport mode,’ they can accidentally hit the ‘start-stop’ button.

That button shuts off the engine and renders the SUV’s airbags inoperable.

The ‘start-stop’ button is also next to the touch screen that controls the radio, Bluetooth phone control and navigation system.

One Lincoln MKC owner wrote to federal safety regulators that a passenger reaching for the radio mistakenly pushed the ‘start-stop’ button, which caused the vehicle to come to a sudden halt.

Ford says it is unaware of any crashes related to the problem.

However, it says it will move the ‘start-stop’ button and reprogram the power train control module.

In an unrelated recall, Ford is also recalling about 12,205 2015 Lincoln MKCs and 2014 Ford Escape Crossovers due to a flaw with the fuel pump, which can cause the vehicle to stall while driving or to not start at all.
